West Town

West Town is one of Chicago's largest community areas and includes several distinct neighborhoods — Ukrainian Village, East Village, Noble Square, and, officially, Wicker Park and Bucktown as well. While each section has its own identity, they share the same foundation: classic Chicago housing, walkable commercial corridors, and easy access to downtown. The housing is dense and varied: brick and frame workers cottages, classic two- and three-flats, condo conversions, and new construction filling in along the main streets. Ukrainian Village in particular holds some of the most intact vintage blocks in Chicago, with its namesake churches — including the gold-domed Saints Volodymyr and Olha — rising above the rooflines.

Chicago Avenue and Division Street carry the food and culture. Kasama, the Filipino restaurant that earned a Michelin star, is on Chicago Avenue; the Empty Bottle on Western remains one of the city's essential small music venues; and Division runs deep with restaurants and bars from Ashland to Western. The Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art has been on Chicago Avenue for over 50 years.

Daily life works well without a car. The Blue Line stops at Division, Chicago, and Grand put the Loop about 10–15 minutes away, and the Chicago, Division, and Ashland buses fill in the rest. Eckhart Park and Smith Park cover the green space, and Eckhart's indoor pool is one of the Park District's originals.

West Town combines vintage housing stock with one of the strongest restaurant corridors in the city. Condos, two-flats, and single-family homes all trade regularly on its side streets.
