Humboldt Park is named for its park — more than 200 acres of lagoons, gardens, and open space shaped by famed landscape architect Jens Jensen, with a historic boathouse, an inland beach at the lagoon in summer, and some of the most beautiful parkland in the city. The boulevard system that runs through Logan Square continues here, lined with greystones and two-flats facing the green.

The neighborhood is the heart of Puerto Rican culture in Chicago. Division Street's Paseo Boricua, marked at each end by 59-foot steel Puerto Rican flags, carries restaurants, bakeries, and institutions including the National Museum of Puerto Rican Arts and Culture, housed in the park's historic stables building. The jibarito — the plantain-bread sandwich now found across the city — was invented in this neighborhood, and the annual Puerto Rican festival and parade fill the park every June.

Housing runs from greystones and two- and three-flats facing the park and boulevards to workers cottages and frame houses on the side streets, with condo conversions and newer construction near the western end of the 606 trail, which begins at the neighborhood's edge.

Buses do the heavy lifting for transit — Division, North, Chicago, and Grand all carry routes east toward the Blue Line and downtown — and many residents keep a car, with street parking generally manageable. The park itself covers nearly every outdoor need: lagoon fishing, the beach, ball fields, gardens, and miles of paths.

Humboldt Park offers parkland on a scale few neighborhoods can match, deep cultural roots, and classic Chicago housing — from greystones and two-flats to cottages and newer construction.
